The Top 10 ideas for building community leadership, according to participants at the 3rd Annual Wisconsin Community Leadership Summit, are:

1. Start Where You Are - Identify people's interests and concerns, assets and talents, and organize your efforts around them.

2. Partnership - create partnerships between the public and private sectors and leverage resources.

3. Engage Youth - create youth internships, shadowing, and mentoring opportunities.

4. Communicate - create a regular forum for people to share their ideas and concerns in a positive, constructive manner.

5. Network - match common interests of local residents and organize them into networks to participate in community planning.

6. Youth Leadership - involve youth in political processes, and community planning processes.

7. Adult Leadership - develop a local leadership program and curriculum.

8. Share Services - collaborate between groups for fundraising, such as sharing grantwriters or creating a community foundation.

9. Develop New Leaders - create a leadership "succession plan" that includes linking community projects with schools, adopt-a-new-leader programs, and involving youth service organizations.

10. Inform - generate awareness of issues through media and personal contacts. Keep everyone informed and involved.
